FESTIVAL!

HARI RAYA PUASA





I'm going to tell you about a festival, called 'Hari Raya Puasa'. This festival is for Muslims. It's kind of the same one as 'Syougatsu' in Japan. People celebrate it after enduring the heavy fasting. First of all, do you know what fasting is? In Islam, fasting is called 'Ramadan'. They don't eat, drink, nor smoke for like a month. Can you believe that they don't even swallow their own saliva? If you are found eating and drinking something, you'll have to walk around the city saying 'I ate food' It's shamefull, isn't it? Under 12 year old kids, sick people, and older people don't have to go fasting but the others do. People usually start buying foods before a week and stock them for the festival. I think this festival is the biggest event for Muslims I think because they can eat lots and lots and lots of food as much as they want after fasting! During Hari raya Puasa, they exchange cards. That's why I think it's the same as Syougatsu in Japan.
